San Miguel de Allende is located in the mountainous central region of Mexico in the state of Guanajuato and enjoys perfect weather year round. Originally known as San Miguel El Grande, it was founded by a Franciscan monk named Juan de San Miguel in 1542 and was a watch station between Mexico City and the rich silver mines of Zacatecas.

The College of San Francisco de Sales was founded in 1734 and served as a political think tank where major ideas and policy for the battle for Independence from Spain were developed.

San Miguel’s cobblestone streets and colonial architecture inspire the artist community. San Miguel de Allende offers a vibrant and lively community of musicians and writers and a mix of fiestas, Mexican folk traditions and religious celebrations. One of the most celebrated is the "Pamplonada" or "San Miguelada”, celebrated the third Saturday in September, fashioned after the "Running of the Bulls" in Pamplona, Spain.

San Miguel de Allende offers plenty of furniture and home decor, Mexican handicrafts, boutiques and art galleries. There is also an active theatre community.

Approximately, ten thousand people from all over the world have chosen to make San Miguel de Allende their permanent home.
